I am a relatively new runner. I started casually maybe 6 years ago, running 3 miles a few days a week. Who knew that would lead to running a marathon. I started with a triathalon (and was terrified--my husband's job was to make sure that I didn't back out before the race). Later I ran a 10k with my sister. I wanted her to drag me along if necessary. It wasn't necessary--but she did push me at the end (I am not a strong finisher). My sister joined me in a triathalon later that year--I improved my time by 15 minutes (cutting 5 minutes off each segment of the race). Then I decided I wanted to run a marathon. I started with a half last October--training with a great group of friends who were all doing the full marathon. That made my half seem easy, but it also made it seem like not much of an accomplishment. But I did convince one of them to run a full marathon again with me.
Short-Term Running Goals:
Tomorrow I am running a marathon. It may be the only one I run. My main goal is to survive. My secondary goal is to finish in about 4 and 1/2 hours. Over the next two years I will definitley run more half marathons--the race is fun and the training isn't as grueling. I also plan on doing a long bike race, and competing in another triathalon.
Long-Term Running Goals:
I am going to live to be 100. I want to stay fit for all those years. Running will definitely factor into my life for the long haul.
Personal:
I've been married for 15 years and have 4 children. I hope to teach them to love fitness. I'm still hoping to rub off on my husband.
